He grew up surrounded by the objects he still works with today and has run the Walu Gallery, founded in 1957, since 1999.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, he founded Hammer Auctions in Basel, the only auction house in Switzerland specializing in non-European art, and has since conducted 160 auctions there. He has also brokered the sale of works to international museums, including the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Museum Rietberg, co-authored the standard work on the twin figures (Ibeji) of the Yoruba, and compiled one of the most comprehensive documentations on the work of the master carver Olowe of Ise.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation of every consultation is a careful clarification of origin and provenance, independence, and discretion.
